About the Wind Mitigation Survey

Effective January 1, 2009, wind mitigation insurance credits / discounts were mandated by the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) based upon certain characteristics of a new or old home. Some items that warrant credits are Hip roof design, secondary water barrier, hurricane straps on rafters at the wall top plates, approved hurricane shutters or impact windows, braced gables and wind rated architectural shingles.

Homes built since 2007 were built under the Louisiana Uniform Constructions Code and should have some items that receive credits on the wind and hail portion of the homeowners policy. Single and two family residential properties qualify. Condominiums, mobile homes, and commercial properties are not eligible for this program.
Please be sure to check with your insurance agent.

In order to receive insurance credits / discounts a Louisiana Hurricane Loss Mitigation Survey Form (Wind Mitigation Survey) must be completed by a registered wind mitigation surveyor, architect, engineer or code enforcement officer. Those individuals must be registered with the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council (LSUCCC).

WIND MITIGATION SURVEYORS, LLC was created to fully direct attention to providing the best and knowledgeable professionals to help homeowners get the proper credits and discounts on their homeowners insurance. USAA policyholders get very good discounts as do policyholders of Chubb and Pure. Check with your insurance agent to see if their insurers follow the LDI Wind Mitigation Credit policy.
